—Yataramar, to Team Riko

Yataramar (ヤタラマル, Yataramaru), moniker "Combatant" (戦闘番 (せんとうばん) , Sentō-ban)[1], is a member of Hail Hex in charge of transportation and setting up the camp, and is a substitute cook to replace Neyozel.[2][1]

Appearance[]

Yataramar is a man of tall stature, almost comparable to Nishagora in height. His most striking features are the small, uneven horn-like growths all over his disfigured head.[3]

His outfit is similar to that of the other members of Hail Hex, such as Srajo and Nishagora. He wears a jacket that exposes his torso, a cloak, a bag on his waist, and bloused boots.[2][4] Occasionally, he will be seen wearing a Delver helmet.[5]

Personality[]

He is remarkably polite and welcoming, as shown when Riko and her team arrived at Camp Number 5.[3] Despite his stature and title of "combatant," he is often shown doing various menial tasks around the camp on Srajo's orders without complaint, displaying his loyalty and respect towards her.[6]

History[]

Curse Fleet Arc[]

When Team Riko arrives at the outpost of Hail Hex, in the 6th Layer, they are greeted by Yataramar. Inside the outpost, Nanachi marvels at the amount of equipment. They are then addressed by the boss of Hail Hex, who is cooking food in a big pot. As the conversation progresses, this boss tells them that the goal of Hail Hex is to reach the deepest depths of The Abyss, asking Riko what her goal is.[7]

As Riko counts in her mind the many goals she and her group still have, she says there's quite a lot. After hearing that, the boss of Hail Hex introduces the Curse Fleet Delver Troupe, Hail Hex, and afterwards herself as their captain, Srajo. She praises Riko and shows recognition as a White Whistle. However, she also notes that they will have to put Riko through her paces first.[8]

Srajo tells the story of her own encounter with Bondrewd prior to going into their Last Dive; Bondrewd senses that someone unusual has come and tells Gueira to call Bido and Rimeyo's squads to the main gate in preparation. Srajo enters Ido Front together with her group, Hail Hex, and salutes but is then stopped by white-cloaked Umbra Hands and talks back aggressively, to which her underling recommends she hold back as they're the so-called Shroud with burial clothes. Bondrewd comes and asks what business they might have come for; Srajo replies that she's looking to use the Altar. Bondrewd then tries to stop her by telling her it is required to send a report to the Delver's Guild, which can take up to 7 days local time.[9]

Srajo tells him she has no time to wait. As her underling interjects with the truth that they're in chase of one of their members who ran off into the 6th Layer looking for The Priestess, Bondrewd is surprised that she would go onto her last dive on such ambiguous conditions even after reducing herself to a coward and insists that she must send a request back to the Guild.[10]

Once Srajo finishes her story and the test is underway, he can be seen preparing the bathwater and making sure Tepaste doesn't go too far.[11]

Yataramar takes charge of bathing Reg for a moment while explaining the use of Hard Scrub to Riko's Party and revealing it was taken from Bondrewd; later, while trying to dry Faputa, he reveals the Crumple Pot was also taken from Bondrewd.[12]

After Reg is taken for assistance, Nanachi overhears Yataramar whispering to Srajo about a "Girl-type," compelling them to reveal their suspicions that Reg might've been one. Srajo infers from Bondrewd's usage of the Sparagmos and sightings of this Girl-type around Ido Front that Reg also possesses this "light." Riko cannot hide her surprise, and Srajo is satisfied with that.[13]

The team shares a meal with Hail Hex after Reg returns, but after tasting something weird with the soup, Yataramar tells Riko to put salt in it through hand signs, as Srajo messed up the final touches.[14] Both teams prepare to set out on a temporary joint expedition until they can find a place to base in the 7th Layer.[15]

As both groups move forward, they are stopped by their senses being negated and are suddenly attacked by a creature. Nanachi moves in to protect against an attack on Sherumi and Menae, and Reg extends his arm in an attempt to save Nanachi.[16]

As Reg latches onto the assailant, Nishagora and Tepaste fasten him to a nearby rock formation.[17] Srajo fires a Popple Gun into the haze to reveal the Mysterious Beast, which had ambushed the group.[18] Faputa and Yataramar pursue, the latter revealing a transformation triggered by Srajo's White Whistle.[19]

Faputa distracts the creature while Yataramar attempts to secure and then free Nanachi.[20][21] A combined attack from a released Sherumi & Menae is able to injure the monstrous arm holding onto Nanachi, and Srajo severs it with another strike from the Popple Gun.[22] Yataramar uncovers Nanachi, revealing grievous wounds.[23]

Abilities[]

Organic Armament[]

When activated by a White Whistle, Yataramar is capable of using his blood and flesh to create a toxic and gooey substance, which he can use for delving purposes. Yatarmar's focus is on using his skin and body fluids. This ability is said to be similar to a Relic called Innards-Legger (増え続ける毒 (イナージレッガー) , Ever-Increasing Poison?), being of a lower grade but proving to be quite effective nonetheless.[24]

Death Graze[]

Yataramar is seemingly capable of solidifying the substance around his arm to make a blunt weapon with an acidic touch.[25]
