Made in Abyss Wiki
Information

You must have been protected by a very, very powerful desire. It is of wonderful Value.

Majikaja, to Nanachi

Value (価値 (かち) , Kachi) is a mysterious quality tied to The Abyss and many of the phenomena encountered there. Beings, objects, and intangible things such as time spent together are classed according to their importance to a particular individual.[1][2][3]

Faputa is first referred to as the "Embodiment of Value".[4]

Classification[]

Gaburoon Explains Value

Gaburoon teaches the different classes of Value to Faputa

Gaburoon gives a description of the different classes of Value given in the language of Irumyuui and the Abyss Tribe, and their relationship to one another and each kind of wish.[2]

Shii[]

Shii is the initial Value, the beginning of desire. It also means "a modest wish".[2]

Kuu[]

Kuu is the piling up of Value, beyond desire. It means "accumulating wish".[2]

Gutsu[]

Gutsu is the solidification of a wish. A crystallization of Value. It means "purity".[2]

Mei[]

Mei is extraordinary Value, the liberation of a wish. It means "purity and impurity", as well as "chaos".[2]

Haku[]

Haku is the very highest Value, the manifestation of a wish. It means "the shape of a soul", "that which is irreplaceable".[2]

An example of Shii being accumulated into Kuu is illustrated by the "Value-hunting game" between Gaburoon and Faputa, in which Faputa would retrieve materials so that the Interference Unit may rebuild itself.[2]

The Village of Iruburu[]

Main Article: The Village of Iruburu

Other properties inherent to Value can be seen as it is used in the Village of Iruburu: After Faputa had inherited the three Cradles of Desire, Irumyuui didn't have the strength to sustain the village but the activity and visitors brought the Value needed to keep her alive.[5] The villagers and visitors of Iruburu are capable of trading with each other and with the village itself through the exchange of equal or higher Value.[6][7] The Luring is another way in which the village increases its overall Value.[8] However, after all the years of trading and luring creatures in, the Value of the village had become much more "complicated" than when Faputa had been born. Once she had taken the Value from the villagers required to know how to use her mother's Value, she found a way to take the strength from her mother; snatching away the Value that was left in her and destroying the village in the process.[9][10]
