| “ | HADImae… Faputa… The meaning in the common language is…how do you say it? A high-status female. […] Princess… Princess of the Hollows. | ” |
Majikaja (マジカジャ), or sometimes just "Kaja," is a Narehate living in The Village of Iruburu.[1] They can understand and communicate using human speech, though they sometimes forget words and sometimes refer to themself in the third person.[2]
Appearance[]
Despite being a Narehate, Majikaja's outside body is artificial, built by a Narehate puppet maker named Jezun, and is made out of many different things gained from trading and bartering.[3][4] They have a stitched-up sack in the center of their container, made of what looks like various cuttings of fabric.[5] Majikaja's real body is gaseous in form and contained within this sack.[6]
During the Luring, Riko gives her pigtails to Majikaja, allowing them to use a special "fast body" form.[7] After Faputa's rampage in the village, Majikaja uses a giant "power body" to transport the others.[8]
Personality[]
Majikaja is shown to be friendly and helpful, as they are the first being to greet Riko, Reg, and Nanachi in the 6th Layer.[9] They escort them through The Village of Iruburu and explain its Value-based economy and show genuine interest in and concern for the three.[10][11] Just as the other inhabitants of Iruburu, they value fair trade and equal exchange.[12]
It can be assumed that Majikaja values scent, due to the claim that their body is formed by smells.[13] This is further supported by how often they reference scent, referring to Nanachi as "nice-smelling," continuously sniffing Vueko, and claiming Riko's scent changed when she grew worried.[13][14][15]
History[]
Early Life[]
Majikaja was not a member of Ganja and arrived at a later time.[16][17][18]
Iruburu Arc[]
After Riko's Party tracks the scent of Prushka's Life-reverberating Stone, following footprints leading to Iruburu, they are approached by Majikaja, who leads them to Poriyon, who is working on Prushka to bring out her true quality as a White Whistle.[19]
While Prushka is being worked on, Majikaja shows them around the village.[20] After witnessing the Iruburu Balancing, they explain the process to Riko.[21]
Later on, when Reg goes to investigate the Narehate Princess and Nanachi searches for water and some fruit, Majikaja accompanies Nanachi and reveals, in a conversation about Value, that one of The Three Sages of the village, Belaf, is in possession of Mitty. Nanachi immediately asks Majikaja to take them to the sage.[22][23][11]
Later, Riko visits the sage, only to find that Nanachi has become their possession. She attempts to buy them back from Belaf but is stopped by Majikaja. The intrusion spares her from trading away her eyes, both her legs, or her complete digestive system. Majikaja covers her mouth and advises her not to be hasty.[24]
In the battle against the Fuzosheppu, Majikaja lets Riko ride on their "fast body" to execute her plan and lure the Fuzosheppu into the center of the village.[25]
When Vueko shares her story and the village's secretive history, Majikaja, who is present, is shocked by the revelations.[26]
Both Majikaja and Moogie become a bit sad and nostalgic when Wazukyan says the village is the homeland of the ones with no place to go and confess that they still dream of continuing their adventure in The Abyss.[27]
Majikaja is also present when the conversation between Riko, Wazukyan, and the villagers is interrupted by Juroimoh's attack.[28] After Reg's battle against Juroimoh, he asks Maaa, Majikaja, and Moogie to keep Riko safe, just before Faputa arrives.[29]
Majikaja is later on seen using a huge container to transport the others into the village. Majikaja states that the Narehate that helped them with this massive body is gone now, and Riko thanks them for helping them.[8]
After Wazukyan fades away, they are interrupted by sounds in the distance. Majikaja and the other villagers inform them that it is Faputa calling to them for the first time. As such, they think they will regret it if they don't follow it, as they feel they would get destroyed for not obeying.[30]
But as they feel like they are the same as Riko, they let her make the final decision on where to head to. Seeing how it is dangerous everywhere, the group decides to go with the villagers. One of the villagers also notes that Vueko should have been with Wazukyan, but she is nowhere in sight. Reg also questions, alarmedly, if they might have missed her along the way, but Riko says they should be able to catch up to her if she is around, because she is not that fast.[31]
As Riko climbs back onto Majikaja, Moogie hands her the portion of her mother's letter that was sold at the Iruburu's Market of Value and tells her that it is a present from her and Majikaja that they obtained by trading in a part of Faputa that Reg had given them.[32]
Riko thanks them, and the group moves onward.[33]
When the village starts to fall apart, Faputa tells Maaa and Majikaja to bring the trio out of the village.[34]
Majikaja's container becomes completely immobile, and as they embrace their demise due to the village’s destruction, they resolve themselves to at least finish the final request of Faputa. Majikaja exits their container in their true gaseous body and enters Faputa’s body via her mouth, who is still unconscious. This causes Majikaja to be able to take control of Faputa's body, defending the group alongside Reg from the falling debris as the village meets its end. Majikaja perishes with the village.[35]
Abilities[]
Multilingual[]
Majikaja understands and speaks many different languages.[4]
Exchangeable Container[]
Majikaja's body is made of "smells"—something they also refer to as a "fluid"—and has to be inside a container to be able to communicate with others. They have three bodies for everyday use.[4]
Quotes[]
- (To Riko) "The bodies of all us Hollows, more or less take on the shape of our respective desires."
- (About Faputa) "Faputa, embodiment of Value. But usually doesn't show self. Can go anywhere. And will never perish."
- (To Riko) "Kaja also received a tuft of hair. So long as there is Value, Kaja can use a fast body and be reckless."
- (In Faputa's body) "This… Not passed through properly…so Kaja will die. Just for the last time! Because Kaja only has last time!"
Trivia[]
- According to Riko's notes, Majikaja enters a living animal when they sleep.[4]
- Aside from the languages used in Orth and in The Village of Iruburu, Majikaja claims to know many more.[4]
- Majikaja is a busybody who likes to show newcomers around the village.[6]
- At the request of Majikaja, the "puppet-shaped vessel" for everyday use has a sensing organ on the face to aid in communication.[36]
- Majikaja's vessel for heightened speed and mobility is normally stored away; it uses very expensive special food, so running it is costly.[37]
- Majikaja had in the past seen humans exchange their precious organs and replace them with ones from villagers, gradually becoming Narehate.[38]
- Majikaja was aware of the story behind the creation of the village due to getting into serious talk while drinking with Miskeso and Gaume, who is one of the original members of Ganja.[18]
- According to information revealed during the Cave Raider Guild Great Balancing Meeting, Majikaja's Narehate form comes from "the desire to have a body that can move freely," as they arrived at the Village unable to move about.[39]
