“ | As long as you're here, Vueko, I'm fine. | ” |
—Irumyuui |
Irumyuui (イルミューイ ) is a former member of the Abyss Tribe that once lived inside the rim of The Abyss. The tribe feared she was cursed, due to her infertility, and sent her as a sacrifice into The Abyss. She joined Ganja, who were just beginning their own descent into The Abyss.[1] This event lead to her playing an instrumental role in the creation of The Village of Iruburu.[2]
Appearance[]
Irumyuui has brown skin, big round yellowish green eyes and cream-colored hair with pigtails forming rings on both sides of her head.[3] She wears a short fur-garment and a short fur-skirt with a leopard-like stripes, as well as a necklace Vueko gifted her.[4]
Personality[]
Irumyuui was very shy and wary of strangers due to her upbringing, but started to open up and grow very close to Vueko as she traveled with the Ganja.[1][5]
History[]
Ganja Arc[]
Irumyuui was cast out of her village at a young age as an offering to the Abyss because her body was "not suited for giving birth". She accompanied the Ganja corps as a guide into the Abyss and warned them about the curse after a Delver attempted to scale a cliff.[6]
When the Ganja reached the 6th layer, they met some Interference Units and learned of that layer's curse. They set up a permanent camp on the 6th layer realizing the curse prevented them from ever returning to the surface.[7]
Vueko developed a mother-like bond for Irumyuui during their time in the camp. Irumyuui also adopted a Hermit Rat, only for it to get eaten by a predator. After some time, Irumyuui and several other members of the corps contracted an illness that left them in severe pain, limbs becoming calcified, and uncontrollable bouts of diarrhea. They figured out that the illness was being caused by a parasitic organism in their water supply that can't be killed by boiling. Vueko tried to take care for Irumyuui and her friends while slowly becoming weaker from her own symptoms.[8]
When the scavenging team brought back an Artifact, the Interference Units identified it as the Cradle of Desire, which fulfills its user's greatest wishes provided it's a simple one. Vueko requested it to be given to Irumyuui, whom she'd figured would be best suited for using it, in the hopes that it could heal her.[9]
The day after Irumyuui was given the Artifact, she no longer had symptoms or felt any pain, but the Artifact had fused with her body, being implanted in her chest and further disfiguring and mutating her. She transformed more and more into what she wished to be as time progressed. One day, Irumyuui gave birth to a creature she called her "baby", but it died the following day due to lacking several vital organs.[10] Irumyuui continued to birth more and more "children", only for them to all die shortly after birth, causing Irumyuui no shortage of grief. Vueko tried to comfort her, but also became completely incapacitated by the parasitic illness by that point and was unable care for Irumyuui. One day, Wazukyan fed Vueko a meaty stew that healed her symptoms, with him claiming "that kid saved us all" and that the others had been healed as well.[11]
It wasn't long before Vueko found out that Wazukyan was feeding Irumyuui's dead children to the sick Ganja members and miraculously, their flesh was able to cure their illness. By that point, Irumyuui had changed so much that she was barely recognizable. She cried in heartbreak with each child that was taken and Vueko felt extreme guilt as she was unable to do anything about it. Vueko apologized and cried helplessly to Irumyuui, who comforted her by telling her she would be fine as long Vueko stayed by her side.[12]
As the days continued on in their newfound hellish situation, Irumyuui mutated further. One day, Vueko, while being with Irumyuui, discovered a second Cradle of Desire in a scar that had opened up in Irumyuui’s chest and was perplexed since she was sure it had broken. Wazukyan arrived at the scene and told Vueko he had the Interference Units search for another one, because Irumyuui had been growing weaker and he feared she might not survive much longer without a second Cradle to fulfill her another wish. Suddenly, Irumyuui started getting restless and began to move. Vueko tried asking her what was wrong, but got no response. Wazukyan, ominously told her that it was "time for Irumyuui's true wish to be fulfilled".[13]
Irumyuui continued to move forward and Wazukyan instructed the other members to stay close to Irumyuui and follow her while he carried Belaf. Suddenly Irumyuui stopped moving and started consuming flying predators with tentacles growing out of her. Belaf, still pained by guilt for consuming Irumyuui's offspring, requested to also be eaten by her and offered himself up to Irumyuui. A giant hole opened up in Irumyuui's body, allowing Belaf to walk right inside her. As Belaf’s flesh was consumed he was simultaneously reconstructed and transformed into a Narehate. The other ganja members, struck by the "beauty" of Belaf’s new form, concluded that they would be forgiven for eating Irumyuui’s Children if they offered themselves up to her in the same way and Wazukyan proclaimed that this was the home they had been looking for.[14]
Vueko however refused to go along with this and tried to jump off a cliff but was saved by Wazukyan, who imprisoned her within a dark pit that used to be Irumyuui’s head, as Irumyuui had transformed into a giant organic structure that can be made into a place for the corps to live in. It would become known as The Village of Iruburu. As Wazukyan left Vueko, she is able to sense various signals and later on also the birth of Irumyuui’s last child - Faputa.[15]
Abilities[]
Birthing[]
After fusing with the Artifact, Cradle of Desire, Irumyuui became able to give birth to Hermit Rat-like creatures and later on, after fusing with other Cradles, is even able to reconstruct humans as Narehate.[16][17]
Trivia[]
- The Beyond Glyphs on Irumyuui's back read "Baby/Shape of soul. Impossible", "Child of the ritual. Child of the Abyss", "To return to the great pit. To be sacrificed", and "Night where the moon vanishes. A moonless darkness".[18]
- The Beyond Glyph on Irumyuui's back translating to "Baby/shape of soul. Impossible." bears resemblance to the symbol for Haku[18]
- The "Ink of sacrifice" had already been put on her back, but Irumyuui followed Vueko on her own before she was officially exiled to the abyss to return her to it as cursed child due to being infertile.[19]
