The Sovereign of Dawn…is eagerly awaiting your arrival.

—Gallice, to Reg

Gallice (ギャリケー, Gyarikē) is a member of the Umbra Hands, also known as Gallice of Ashes, due to his flamethrower Artifact.[1][2][3] He is known as a "Shroud," a type of Umbra Hand outfitted with a white coat and powerful Artifacts for combat.[4]

Appearance[]

Gallice wears a Black Whistle, black delving attire, and a big white cloak that hides his silhouette. His white mask has two lenses and a white cloth that covers his mouth.[3] On his back, he carries a large sack that contains his flamethrower gear.[5]

Without his gear, Gallice appears tall and muscular, with sharp facial features and a sharp gaze.[2]

Personality[]

Gallice is pragmatic and he has no qualms with burning the Garden of the Flowers of Fortitude while Peijin, another Delver participating in the mission, was deemed unlikely to safely return, meaning that he is absent-minded towards the safety of other Delvers.[6]

History[]

Pre-Orth Arc[]

Spoiler warning: The following section contains spoilers. Read with caution.

In the Tumble Tavern, Tepaste notes the presence of Umbra Hands in the pub to Cravagli.[7]

As Cravagli takes a glance, the presence of the Umbra Hands, the Subterranean Bandits, and Hablog is shown. Cravagli wonders if "Shroud" is also among them, to which Tepaste points out Gallice is sitting at the leftmost chair. Gallice notices Cravagli and Tepaste observing them, which prompts Cravagli to greet them with his personal greeting, "Dyaho-de," to disarm the situation.[8]

14 days later in surface time, at the lowest point of the Inverted Forest, the Forward Expedition Party arrives at their destination, the Joint Delving Site, with their three commanders: Hablog as Delve Chief Commander, Simred as Delve Vanguard Commander, and Gallice as Delve Squadron Commander.[1]

They find themselves before a large, open hole in the shape of a pentagon somewhere in the forest. Simred asks rhetorically if his couldn't have been caused by natural causes, Hablog notes nobody ever having tried for this place before and even the scholars being excited, and Gallice states that whoever opened this hole must have known of Artifacts existing in that opened section.[1]

As Hablog shines his headlamp into it, he remarks on the many Storage Vessels, which would be classed as Second-Grade Artifacts.[9] He further notes that something of this scale will surely make it into Delver history, and they will need a lot of manpower, with it at least taking several weeks to recover everything, along with the time it takes to dig routes for the Blue Whistles. Gallice factors this as at least three months in surface time.[10]

Hablog questions Simred about the situation of the lookouts, and Simred tells him they have one of the Seeker Camp's big telescopes set on this location. Hablog further notes he can see no Special Grade Relics as far as he can tell, and Gallice notes that whoever made this hole most likely took them if any had been there at all.[10]

Gallice notices fresh vestiges, calling it a parting gift, and directs the group's attention to something that isn't quite visible for the readers but causes shock to the group. This obscured object for the reader causes Hablog to instruct Simred to tell the Seeker Camp to activate a high Glowstone signal for better visibility, and they will need a determination of whether or not this area is prohibited, as well as informing Ozen they will need her help as soon as she returns.[11]

Ido Front Arc[]

Riko and her companions encounter Gallice at the Garden of the Flowers of Fortitude. Initially thinking of Gallice as an enemy, Reg, who was tasked to approach him by the others, prepared his incinerator to attack him when the Umbra Hand surprisingly sunk into the ground. Nanachi signalled Reg to then turn to his right at his feet, and Gallice rose up from the ground and appeared in front of him yet again. He then returns the Blaze Reap to Reg and explains that the garden is off-limits, before bringing him to see the body of an Amaranthine-Deceptor victim. Gallice briefly explains about Amaranthine-Deceptors, and why there was a need to burn the garden down. He tells Reg that Bondrewd is expecting them at Ido Front before immolating the garden and destroying the local Amaranthine-Deceptor infestation with his flamethrower.[12]

Abilities[]

Combat Abilities[]

Gallice is noted to possess a high combat strength, equipped with powerful Artifacts to the point where Riko's group would have been in trouble had he been there during the skirmish at the Ido Front and Bondrewd taking control of him.[13] He is a capable and competent Delver and combatant, due to him being a Black Whistle.
