The Footing-slicer (アシバカイナ, Ashibakaina) is a creature featured in Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness.

Description

Footing-slicers are primeval creatures with nine legs and have moss-like plants growing on their back.

The footing-slicers dwell in the 5^th Layer, but move up to the 4^th Layer during breeding season. They plant their eggs inside flat-creepers and die once doing so. By planting eggs in the warmer, more accessible 4^th Layer, it increases the chances of its spawn surviving.

They use six of their claws on the side to hunt prey while the remaining three legs walk. The six claws cover a rather wide area.

While the Footing-slicer can't attack very quickly, because its attacks are unpredictable, caution must be exercised when approaching it. Its shell is extremely hard, so one must aim for its joints, though it is difficult as the large claws get in the way. The best approach is to rush its torso region and aim at the joints of the legs used for movement.

Footing-slicers keep their claws exposed even while asleep, prepared for an attack, which makes them look like a towering pillar from a distance.

If one can ride them, they will aid in reaching higher places, as well as provide one with a means of transportation.
