The Goblets of Giants (
Description[]
It is a humid jungle of strong vines and weaving giant concave discs called Flat-creepers.[2] The discs capture water from the air, creating shallow pools. Many creatures, such as the Orb Piercer, live in these pools.[3] The high concentration of warm water in this region creates a high humidity environment and sometimes fog. Additionally, the light from The Force Field refracts from the water, giving the scenery of the 4th Layer a blue hue.[2]
Every two-thousand years, the Flat-creepers' prey-trapping mechanisms wither up, leaving the ground underneath exposed to light. Unobstructed, the plants underneath compete to grow as tall and large as they possibly can, giving rise to a completely new landscape.[2] Since the environment constantly changes, no attempts have been made to create a detailed map of its features, except for pointing out non-jungle landmarks.[1]
In a remote area, away from the central shaft, in the upper region of the fourth layer is Nanachi's Hideout. This area is unaffected by the Curse.[4]
At the 9,000 meters mark, exists the famous Garden of the Flowers of Resilience, an area filled with Eternal Fortunes, the iconic flower of the Abyss.[5] The distinctive sight produced by the countless glowing flowers make the garden one of the most beautiful landscapes of the Abyss.[citation needed]
Here, the Curse takes the form of intense pain throughout the body and bleeding from every orifice.[6]

Footnotes[]
- ↑ In chapter 7, pages 15–16, Shiggy, while talking about the different layers, says, "Anyway, we're finally on to the fourth layer! Only Black Whistles and above can go here. [emphasis in original]" and "The fifth layer! This is the domain of White Whistles alone[.]"
This is contradicted in the second volume's chart which says the depth limit of Moon Whistles is the fourth layer and that the limit of Black Whistles is the fifth.
The original Japanese releases were investigated and there is no translation error.
However, in chapter 23, page 7, Bondrewd states in a conversation with another Delver, "Why bring this up now? It's also for this very purpose that I proposed Black Whistles enter the fifth Layer[.]"
This suggests a change in the depth limit has occurred at one point and as such, it is possible that Shiggy isn't aware of it.
In the game, Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness, Hablog notes Black Whistles are only officially allowed to delve to the 5th Layer if they are accompanying a White Whistle which gives context to why the second volume's chart states the depth limit of Black Whistles is the fifth while Shiggy stated it to be the domain of White Whistles alone.
