The Dread-Owle (畏怖 (いふ) ゲブロ, Ifu Geburo), also referred to as Beast of Omen (先 (さき) 触 (ぶ) れの獣 (けもの) , Sakibure no Kemono) is a creature that lives in the 6^th Layer of The Abyss, where return is humanly impossible.

Description

Their round bodies are covered with pelt-like fur, sacs protrude from their upper backs. They have multiple limbs which each end in a hook-like claw. Their eyeballs are rather large and they have a long beak.

A Dread-Owle’s body fluid has a sort of "structure" that interferes with the "Life-Insignia" of The Force Field. A "Life-Insignia" is unique to each living creature, and whether they are aware of it or not, their mere presence imprints a faint mark on the Force Field.

Organisms that can perceive the insignia can read the information in the Force Field more finely, and thus are thought to be able to track and select their prey. By spraying "body fluid" on the prey, the Dread-Owle can disguise the prey's insignia as "somehow disgusting, negligible" and monopolizes it so that it can't be found by other predators.

Interestingly, even if the body fluid is applied to things such as "sebum and hair that has fallen from the prey," the effect extends to "the prey itself." It is not known whether this is unique to a Dread-Owle's body fluids or a property of the Force Field. The fluid is structurally capable of interfering with the insignia, so even if the Dread-Owle dies, it will continue to interfere with the insignia until the structure of the fluid is destroyed. Faputa uses this characteristic by intuitively understanding it from experience and observation.

Trivia

• The Dread-Owle first makes an appearance after two had been killed by Faputa to craft charms made with her hair, Riko's hair, and Nanachi's hair.
